Discussion Paper Series

The IRC Discussion Paper Series makes the results of organization development and labour relations research available to the academic and practitioner worlds. These papers are available electronically free of charge in order to stimulate dialogue among the labour relations and organization development communities. A full list of available papers is available in the LR Collection and OD Collection.

The IRC is interested in receiving papers from academics and practitioners who are conducting research in issues relating to the world of work. Discussion papers may be submitted electronically and, if accepted, the paper will be reproduced on the IRC’s web site. Authors will retain copyright and are free to use their paper in other published formats.

Case Studies Series

The Case Studies Series is a set of written accounts of labour relations and human resource management, and organization development problems that closely parallel actual organizations and workplace issues. Targeted to labour relations/human resource management practitioners, the cases provide real-life solutions to complex issues faced by labour relations or human resource managers. Each case describes an organizational problem and shares expert advice from experienced professionals on how to approach and solve the problem. A list of available cases can be seen in the LR Collection and OD Collection.

Research reports and papers

Faculty in IRC's practitioner programs, the Master of Industrial Relations program, and other departments at Queen’s are engaged in research projects related to the world of work. In addition to the Discussion Paper Series, faculty may be interested in the dissemination of their research to a wider audience. This could include short summaries of their research, profiles, case studies, papers presented at conferences, seminars or workshops, articles, or commentary. It is the responsibility of the author to obtain permission for any previously published document.

Research reports disseminated by the IRC should meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Contribute to a better understanding of important issues, polices, or practices;
  • Discuss innovative approaches, strategies, or practices;
  • Identify key trends and issues and their impacts on the world of work; or
  • Discuss major policy challenges and issues.
