The State of HR in Canada
The IRC is pleased to report that an Executive Summary of our survey, "An Inquiry into the State of HR in Canada," is now available on our website. The Summary highlights our findings, and answers the following questions: What are the top five challenges for HR professionals? What are the top three immediate and long-range priorities for HR departments across the country? What do HR professionals consider to be the critical skills and knowledge for practitioners?
The Executive Summary of our State of HR survey is available for complimentary download from our website:
Look for more articles on our survey results in the upcoming IRC Research Briefs, Canadian HR Reporter (May 9, 2011), and the Human Resources Institute of Alberta's Network Magazine (June 2011).
In April, Queen's IRC Director, Paul Juniper, delivered two sold-out sessions at the Alberta HR Conference in Edmonton. Paul presented an overview of the findings from our recent survey and talked about the future of the HR profession. Paul's Future of HR presentation is available for download from the IRC's website:
Message from Queen's IRC Director Paul Juniper
As our 2010-2011 program season draws to a close, we would like to thank all of our participants for their engagement in our programming. The IRC values lifelong learning, and is committed to providing relevant professional development for our clients. This year, we successfully introduced two new programs into our Labour Relations portfolio: Managing Unionized Environments and Mastering Fact-Finding and Investigation.
For more information on the Mastering Fact-Finding and Investigation program, we encourage you to review the article authored by IRC Facilitator, Anne Grant, Developing a Competency Framework for Labour Relations Professionals. This research served as the catalyst for the Mastering Fact-Finding and Investigation program.
We have some very exciting research and program plans for the upcoming year. I look forward to sharing these with you over the next few months. Please continue to read our E-News and Research Briefs regularly for updated information on our work.
Queen's IRC Tradeshow Appearances
Throughout the Spring 2011 program season, the IRC has been participating in various tradeshows. We have enjoyed the many conversations we have had with labour relations and human resource professionals across the country. When individuals visited our information booth, they were invited to enter their business card in a draw. Prizes included Starbucks gift cards and three complimentary resources - Switchpoints, authored by Peter Edwards, Gary Furlong's Conflict Resolution Toolbox, and Made in Canada, written by Amal Henein and Francoise Morissette.
We would like to congratulate the following individuals who have been selected to receive a gift from the IRC:
