Organization Development Stream: Overview

The Queen’s Certificates in Organization Development and Labour Relations are the most prestigious in the people management field. When placed on your office wall, they tell your colleagues that you have received leading skills-building education and that you are a committed continuous learner. If you are a senior leader responsible for professional development, a Queen’s Certificate is assurance that your management corps has the latest process and practice skills to address the challenges of modern private and public sector organizations.

The Organization Development Certificates Philosophy

There is a significant evolution in the field of human resource management: increasingly, people management practitioners must understand the concepts and learn the skills involved in designing organizations to leverage inherent strengths, not stifle them. The organization development professional's work is guided by a set of powerful questions designed to discover the needs of the organization. The toolkit includes a theory map or diagnostic lens that guides the practitioner's questions, an action research consulting process, and a battery of effective techniques. Deploying this toolkit, an OD professional can work on culture-level change and organization-wide design.

We have designed all of our organization development programs with such needs in mind. Blending the best of academic and practice-based knowledge, we created the Queen’s IRC Blueprint for Organizational Effectiveness. The Blueprint is designed to help practitioners collect data, diagnose organizational dynamics, and identify solutions. It defines the six "rooms" in which the OD professional operates: Leadership, Strategy, Infrastructure, Capabilities and Resources, People, and Relationships.

Our Certificate structure is based on the need for human resources professionals to have a solid understanding of process and practice and, for those advanced professionals, the ability to apply their skills in an actual organizational setting.

  • The Queen’s Certificate in Organization Development Fundamentals covers the process skills you need.
  • The Queen’s Certificate in Developing Organizational Capacity allows you to acquire the practice skills required when working in each "room" of the IRC Blueprint.
  • And the Queen's Master Practitioner in Applied Organization Development gives you the opportunity to apply your skills in an actual initiative.
