Big firms from India are establishing a strong presence in the UK and around the globe. Their HR systems are characterized by an absence of hierarchy and experimentation with new ways of working. This is in contrast to Chinese organizations that tend to follow Western models, says this article from the UK's Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
"Employee first, customer second" is a new set of HR practices created by Indian IT company HCL Infosystems. It is based on the principle that managers should be accountable to staff rather than the other way around, because employees know customers best. For Tata Group, which owns the UK's Tetley Tea, a "minimalist, enabling" approach to HR has taken root, with a focus on developing global talent.

As part of a broad reform effort, the largest public school system in the US - with about 1,450 schools, 1.1 million students, 136,000 employees, and a $15 billion budget - overhauled its HR department. Applying HR models and practices from the private sector resulted in better operations and human capital management.
