Alton, Roger
He has a great deal of employee relations and conflict resolution experience gained over 24 years in various human resources assignments, including director human resources, with one of Canada's leading retailers, Sears Canada Inc. He has been a conflict resolution consultant since 2000. Roger received an Advanced Alternative Dispute Resolution Certificate from the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies, Conrad Grebel College - University of Waterloo. He was granted his Certified Human Resources Professional designation (1997) by the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario and his Chartered Mediator designation (2003) by the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Canada. At Sears Canada Inc., Roger made significant contributions to the development and facilitation of training programs that deal with employee relations issues including workplace violence prevention and response, mutual respect in the workplace, and coaching for performance improvement. Roger has coached and mentored participants in conflict resolution workshops including Osgoode Hall Law School's - ADR Symposium for Health Care Professionals and York University's ADR Certificate Program. He is a frequent public speaker on workplace topics including harassment investigations, conflict resolution options and mediation. Roger is an active member of Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario, Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario and Ontario Bar Association - ADR Section (Affiliate Member). He is a roster mediator, Ontario Mandatory Mediation Program in Toronto and Ottawa. Roger serves on the Board of Directors for the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario and Fellowship Towers, a Toronto seniors' residence. Roger provides the highest quality employee relations and conflict resolution services to individuals, business, government and non-profit organizations with an emphasis on effectiveness and value. He has worked extensively in both unionized and non-unionized environments. Roger has earned the trust and respect of many union organizations including the Public Service Alliance of Canada, the United Steelworkers and The Society for Energy Professionals. Roger provides a full range of customized conflict resolution services including workplace assessments, mediation of workplace disputes and human rights / harassment investigations. Roger lives in Markham Ontario with his wife Janice. They have two sons living in their home town, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
